How to write a post & Why
we organised a masterclass on creating personal and startup brand through online content. I spoke on how founders can use long form writing on Fundind.com to enhance their individual brands.
Writing is a superpower, and you’re doing yourself a big disservice if you don’t regularly write online. Writing is one of the highest leverage activities you can do with zero downsides. It liberates you. It makes you a better thinker.
It was a fun, interactive session with a lot of interesting question. A common question that most participants had was about criticism.
Most of them wanted to write online but were scared of criticism. Some of them had experienced nasty comments on their earlier LinkedIn posts. This fear of personal attacks was stopping them from writing more often.
My advice was simple.
1. Develop a thick skin. No matter how harmless is your post, there will always be someone who will find a way to get offended.
Taking offence has become a fundamental right in India.
2. Avoid topics linked to identities of individuals – Politics and Religion. LinkedIn is a business platform. Anything related to your career, startup or business is a safe bet. You won’t get brickbats for discussing business models and company performances.
3. Don’t go for controversies. While the easiest way to get engagement is to write about trending, contentious topics, it carries a risk. You attract a lot of mean comments.
If you want to write online and aren’t comfortable with people questioning your motivations, avoid controversial topics. You might lose out on some engagement through this approach, but at least you won’t lose your sleep over comments.
The most important think about anything including writing online is to start.
For powerful online writing, use 4 Cs
Consistent
Clear
Creative
Concise
If you want to write for decades, write about things you’re passionate about. Otherwise, you’ll lose interest. Look forward to more posts on Fundind.com from you all.
